Fresh Patch Company Offers All-Wood Sleeves for Disposable Real-Grass Dog Potties
On August 1st, 2014, the Fresh Patch Company will offer all-wood, optional outer sleeves, which are designed to hold its 16×24 inch real-grass, fully disposable dog potty units. The reusable sleeves are intended to ward off the chewing behavior of some high-energy puppies and dogs.
According to a Company spokesperson, Fresh Patch disposable, real-grass dog potties–which are intended for dogs up to 25 pounds–are made from very sturdy material. However, we know that some dogs, and especially puppies, like to chew everything in sight. Many of our clients need our disposable dog potties for house-training young dogs, and we want to offer them a product that is virtually puppy-proof.
The Company says it has received very positive feedback from customers about the hydroponic grass it sells. The grass is light-weight, dirt-free, highly absorbent, and its scent naturally attracts dogs. The only suggestion some customers have made is that we should find a way to reinforce the sides of our disposable potty units for chew-loving pups. We decided to act on that feedback, and we developed the new protective sleeves for those customers who want them.
In addition to its 16×24 inch disposable, real-grass potty unit and optional sleeve for small-to-medium size dogs, the Fresh Patch Company is now offering products for larger dogs. The Company recently announced that, starting June 1, it will sell 2×4 foot hydroponic grass pads for dogs over 25 pounds. A stainless-steel tray designed specifically to hold these larger grass pads is also available separately, as an optional purchase. Alternatively, dog owners may decide to use the grass with or without their own containers.
With nation-wide shipping capabilities via Fedex, the Fresh Patch Companys website (http://www.freshpatch.com) offers a continuous delivery service for both its 16×24 inch real-grass disposable dog potty units and its new 2×4 foot real-grass pads. Both products feature hydroponic grass. The Companys products are also available on Amazon.com.

You Can Save a Life

Cincinnati Reds fans can help the Heimlich Heroes program celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Heimlich Maneuver Reds home baseball games on June 7 and 8.
The Heimlich Heroes program teaches children ages seven and up how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver in order to save a person from choking to death.
Thoracic surgeon Dr. Henry Heimlich, 94, developed the maneuver in 1974, while he was director of surgery at Cincinnatis Jewish Hospital. The maneuver has saved countless thousands of people from choking deaths since then.
You can find us in the Fan Zone before and during the game both days. We are excited to host a table set up to inform baseball fans about the Heimlich Maneuver and the Heimlich Heroes program, said program manager Terri Huntington. We encourage fans to use the drop box which will be set up so we can hear your story. Dr. Heimlich is planning to make an appearance and well also have Hank and Heidi our specially designed training dolls on hand so visitors to the table can actually practice the maneuver and learn how to save a life. Practicing the maneuver on a doll helps people gain confidence to act if they should encounter this situation in real life.”
The June 7 and 8 Cincinnati Reds weekend is the perfect time to remind families nationwide of the importance of learning the Heimlich Maneuver and acting quickly in order to save a life. Reds third baseman Todd Frazier was recognized as a Heimlich Hero for administering the Heimlich Maneuver to a man choking on a piece of steak at a Pittsburgh restaurant two years ago.
About 5,000 people die from choking each year because those around them do not know what to do, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Summer time is picnic time, and the chance of choking on a piece of food when talking, laughing or playing is increased, said Huntington. Hot dogs and pieces of hard candy are common choking hazards. This is the simplest first aid action proven to prevent a choking death and this teaching is critical to young and old alike. Four minutes is all you have before lack of oxygen to the brain causes permanent injury or death.
Heimlich Heroes is expanding rapidly throughout the country in school systems, national youth clubs, and other health-conscious organizations.
In the past few months alone, the program has trained more than 1,100 children ages seven through 18 in nine different states. For more information about the Heimlich Heroes program, visit the website at: http://www.heimlichheroes.com
Dr. Heimlich’s memoir, Heimlich’s Maneuvers: My Seventy Years of Lifesaving Innovation (Prometheus Books, 2014) describes how he came up with the Heimlich Maneuver and many other lifesaving innovations. It is available in bookstores and online.

The Heimlich Heroes program is a Deaconess Associations, Inc. and Heimlich Institute initiative that teaches children ages seven and up how to become super heroes by learning to perform the Heimlich Maneuver correctly in order to save a life.
Akita dogs are big dogs that need plenty of training to turn them into them a good friendly house dog. Having an Akita dog is not like owning any other dog. This is a huge assertive dog that by nature is domineering and will look to take authority of a group or family. If you are thinking about owning an Akita dog then you really need to do your homework before taking the plunge. The dog can be very challenging and is not for everyone
Akita dogs are by nature dog aggressive and require thorough socialization when they are young to get them familiar to other dogs. Even a well-trained Akita has to be carefully watched when in the company of other dogs, especially male dogs. The dog is not a natural mixer and doesn’t like strangers.
The Akita has lots of great qualities like unquestionable loyalty to its family; it’s this deeply innate loyalty that can lead to the Akita dog to become hostile when near other dogs. It may mistake playfulness by other dogs, as a threat and attack in what it believes is a defence of its pack. You need to counter this tendency by coaching the Akita from a puppy that not everyone is a threat.
It’s also very territorial and does not mix well. If you introduce an Akita dog to your home it will soon try to demonstrate its position as pack leader. A huge part of coaching the dog is to make certain that it acknowledges you and other family members are above it in the pack hierarchy.
It’s important that you do this, if you don’t, then the Akita will take command and if that occurs your ownership of the dog will not be agreeable. Don’t even consider taking on an Akita dog without having a good training plan in place.
It will require a lot of your time in the early days to train it to its new home. Lots of people take on Akita dogs and fail with them because they don’t understand what having an Akita involves. You need to do some serious research about this dog before committing yourself to getting one.
A properly trained Akita is a wonderful companion for life, they’re loyal, funny and once trained pretty easy to look after. They’re not the kind of dogs you can take onto a general space however and just let free. Even a trained Akita requires watching when around other dogs and strange people.
Akita dogs make superior guard dogs and family pets when they are well socialized, I can’t emphasise the well trained advice enough. If you’re thinking of getting an Akita then look for an training school to take it to while it is young. The sooner it becomes socialized with other dogs the better. Training is the key to successful ownership of Akita dogs
Once trained though you’d be hard-pressed to find a dog that will give you total loyalty and become a protector and friend for life. The dogs are very loyal to their pack and will not allow any member to be threatened. Despite its domineering nature a well-trained akita is a wonderful dog to have.
