Training your dog means that you are teaching your dog the basic rules and things that should be expected by you. These can include the common rules such as not peeing in the house, walking closely on the lead, and listening to commands when they are spoken. This is something that virtually all owned dogs deal with, and you will be hard pressed today to find an owned dog that has not had some form of training. These common guidelines are what make the dog special in the field of family pets, in that they rely on us for so much yet are intelligent enough to understand what we want from them.
Works Both Ways
When it comes to training your dog, this is something that basically works both ways. You will relay to the dog what it is you expect of them, and this will give you the chance to understand what your dog understands. This is a bond, and with dedication and work, you could find that this relationship will be one of your fondest. Dogs are amazing animals and they show just how smart they are each and every day. Using the power of their intelligence, you should be able to show them that they can follow your rules and be productive as a family pet. You will enjoy your dog far more, if you take the time to ensure that it is trained. There will be far less conflicts between dog and owner, and you will be enjoying them more than reprimanding them.
For The Family
Training your dog is as much for the dog, as it is for the whole family. Dogs are an animal that mingles within a family setting quite well today, and if your dog is not behaving due to a lack of training it will bring the whole family to a standstill. No one wants to get rid of the family dog, but if the dog is simply not behaving there is often no other alternative. This is why training is so important, as it teaches the family dog exactly what is expected of them and how they should behave. Without training, the family dog could actually cause quite a few problems in the home and this would not be enjoyable for either the dog or the family. Take the time to train your dog, so you do not have to face such a decision in the future.
Gives Them Opportunities
Training your dog will give them opportunities that they would not otherwise have. They could actually go with you to places that without the training they simply could not. Some restaurants and cafes allow the presence of dogs, and if your dog is poorly behaved they will not be one of the lucky ones. Take the time to train your dog right, and you will be glad that you did. Training will help the dog in your home, as well as socially.
Sheltie Training Collar Guide
With the number of dogs being registered every year, it is evident that many people are amazed with what a furry four-legged creature can do. Dogs have “cuteness” factor that is guaranteed to steal almost every pet lover’s heart. One of those breeds that possess such cuteness is the Shetland sheepdog. This breed is not only champion in appearance. They also have high level of intelligence which is important in becoming successful in sheltie training.
Sheltie training is not impossible neither a very easy task. But to achieve your goals of having a behaved pet, it is important that you are well aware of what works best, including training tools, for your pet. Training tools such as collar must top the list of must-haves for your pet. But take note that, you just can’t choose whatever collar you like. You have to consider it’s:
Collars vary depending on their purpose. Choke collars, also called chain collars are commonly used to train service dogs or agility training. This type of collar, though often recommended to first time dog owners, must be used with caution to prevent accident. Head collars, though they look like muzzles, have different purpose. Use this if you want to have more control over your dog particularly when training him to walk on a leash and heel. Pronged collars are ideal for giant breeds while electronic collars can be used to dogs that are seemingly untrainable. However, be cautious when using the latter for it is not advisable for young dogs or those with health problems.
Size and comfort.
A collar must fit comfortably around a dog’s neck. It must not be too tight to choke your dog’s neck or too loose to be able your dog to slip off it. You should be able to fit two fingers between your pet’s neck and collar to ensure that the collar is correctly placed.
Although quality is often associated with price, expensive ones may not be necessary all the time. You may only need simple and cheap collars when training your dog to stop barking or chewing.
Collars are effective sheltie training tools but bear in mind that what they are doing is part of the job only. Remember that using positive reinforcement such as praise and treats are important as well.
Schutzhund Dog Training Secrets – Learn the Three Stages of Schutzhund Dog Training For Your Dog
Schutzhund dog training is not for everyone, but it certainly has its benefits. Schutzhund dog training started in Germany in the 1900s as a test for the working dog qualities of the German Shepherd dog breed. Training your dog using the Schutzhund method gives the dog the ability to protect its master, but show enough restraint to still obey its master despite highly stressful circumstances. For example, the dog should not be afraid to bite the arm of an assailant, but still have the presence of mind to let go if the master bids the dog to do so. Today, this type of dog training is a popular sport that tests the dog characters in three stages: obedience, tracking, and protection.
This Schutzhund dog training stage is conducted in a large field and involves two dogs. One dog is left on a corner of the field while the handler works on the other dog. Then, after the first dog completes the course, the dogs switch places. The dog is taken through a series of exercises, such as heeling among a group of people, recalls, and retrieves. There is also a time in Shutzhund dog training that gunshots are fired and the dog is expected to remain in heeling position. This tests the dog’s reactions to stressful situations. If the dog is too aggressive or shows fear, the dog doesn’t pass this part of training.
In this part of the training, the dog is asked to track a series of articles that are previously laid in a field. The dog then finds the articles and shows that he or she has found the article. Usually, the dog indicates this by lying down with the article between his or her front paws.
Training your dog using the Schutzhund method is not complete without the third stage, which is protection. The dog is tested on how he or she can protect his or her master and still have the presence of mind to obey its master through this. A decoy, who wears a heavily padded sleeve, then pretends to attack the master. The dog is expected to stop the attack by biting the padded sleeve. As part of the schutzhund dog training, the dog must also let go of the padded sleeve when given a command. Failure to do so will result to the dog not passing the test. As part of the schutzhund dog training protection phase, the dog is also asked to find a hiding decoy and to bark and keep the decoy until the handler dismisses him or her.
Competitions that feature the best of Schutzhund dog training abounds. There are several training levels in which your dog can compete.
Dog Training Tips
House training your dog or puppy requires consistency. To make life easier on you should choose an area of your yard that will be the potty spot. You will want to take your puppy out to the designated spot every hour. At the designated area you will want to walk the dog around the area and also choose a keyword that you will always use when you are with the dog in the area. This will allow the dog to associate the command with going potty. You will want to continue this process until your dog goes potty in the designated area. You will want to reward him with praise and possibly a treat. Continue with the training and he will eventually understand that he only goes potty in the designated area.
There are many other trainings that you can use to train your dog. Obedience training is a great way to get your dog to obey your commands. This can help keep your dog and others safe. It can also relive stress that a dog with behavior problems can cause. Behavioral training may be much more difficult depending on the issues. Seeking assistance may be the right choice for you and your dog.
If you are encountering more problematic or behavioral issues with your dog then you may want to seek the assistance of a professional trainer. When deciding on a trainer, you may want to consider the following tips. Search for a trainer with years of experience and a good track record. Find a trainer that is willing to customize a program for your dog’s special needs. Every dog is not the same so every trading program should not be the same. Be sure to verify that the trainer or academy only uses humane training methods. Ask for references and look for any negative feedback online. Once you decide on a trainer that meets your criteria, you can then begin the training process.
Alpha Dog Obedience Training – Basic Steps to Train Your Dog
As the title suggests, praise and positive re-enforcement are your keys to quick and easy obedience training for your dog.
The old saying “dogs are man’s best friend,” didn’t work its way into our every day life by accident. It has taken centuries of man working alongside the Canine and breeding desirable traits into the popular breeds of today. From the tiniest Chihuahua to the biggest Bull Mastiff and everything in between, each breed carries a desirable trait for its master. Along with size, color, type of fur and demeanor. The inherent trait of wanting to please its master, is probably the most desired and useful trait a dog could own. Using your dogs trait to please its master is the most effective way to train any dog. Ever hear the old saying “You attract more bee’s with honey?” Well, the same holds true with training your dog. Good dog obedience training is simply about praising the good behavior of your dog and ignoring the bad.
Praise that can re-enforce wanted behavior can be anything from a simple “GOOD BOY” to a nice piece of steak! A good pat on the head or scratch behind the ears are a couple of my favorites. This type of training can be done under many situations. Let’s say you are working on the command “sit.” If you find your dog in a nice sitting position even without your command. You can use this as an opportunity to positively re-enforce the command”sit.” As the dog is all ready sitting you can tell him/her “good boy! Sit, that is a good sit!” (pet or give him a treat).
Now lets talk a little about handling the not so good behavior. I know that this can be the most challenging part of training a dog. Let me point out the most important thing you have to remember when it comes to dealing with bad behavior. IF YOU DON’T CATCH YOUR DOG IN THE ACT there is no chance for learning or correcting the behavior. If you do catch your dog in the act of say chewing on your brand new dinning room table, (which has happened to me), you must first control your emotions. Then firmly say,”NO!” and re-direct them to what they are aloud to chew on. Now comes the really hard part… praise them for chewing on the correct chew toy. Keep your rage for that Saturday morning kick boxing class.
So, remember “Good Dog!” Obedience Training. Is the best and fastest way to train your dog. And you will be rewarded as you develop confidence in your dog and your relationship with your dog. An unbeatable combination for a long lasting rewarding companionship.
Happy training, thanks for reading.
