Bark Busters – Patrick Logue – Bark Busters’ Dog Training Methods
Though there is a general impression that reward training is the modern type of training, in reality this training method is very old. As old as ever since the dogs were there to train. Even before that people were using informal reward training methods to train wolf pups, which turned out to be modern dogs. Modern reward training gains popularity only for the past 10 to 15 years. But people were using principle of reward training for many decades. Dog trainers prefer this method to other training methods like leash and collar method. But in some cases the combination of these training methods is found to be more effective.
Training methods will vary from dog to dog. Some dogs can be easily trained by using a leash/collar method where as other dogs need a reward training method. These dogs are happy with the reward they get and listen to a trainer’s command thinking of reward. Some dogs fall between these two categories. They need the combination of both reward training as well as leash/collar training method.
Clicker training is another form of reward training. This method has become very popular among the trainers. When the dog does something good, the trainer will use a clicker to make click sound. As soon as the dog hear the click sound it knows that it will get a reward, a treat. Gradually the dog starts responding to the click sound.
Reward training is associated with food. The Dog will get reward as a food. After obeying any order from the master the dog expects food immediately. For more complex exercises this system work wonderfully. People who train the dogs for movies and television uses this reward training exclusively, which gives great results. Police and military dogs are trained by using a reward-training method. They are trained to smell and track. This is helpful in training the dog about basic behavior like obedience. Some reward training include lure in reward training method. The trainer uses the lure to get the dog in certain position according to trainers wish. Later on the dog will get in to that position whenever the dog feels like. It is a sensible thing to train the dog with out physically interfering.
Training the dog without touching is very important. Positive reinforcement is the reward dog gets after every good performance. Reward they get is a positive reinforcement. Not only food but also word like ‘good boy’ and a pat on their head will do wonders.
When training the dog for some important job like in police, detection of drugs etc. the dog need to be reliable. So these dogs need to be trained in such environments. Surrounding people and sounds should not distract the dogs. The dogs need to be social with people and other animals around. The biggest mistake the dog trainers do is to train the dogs inside the house or in the yards. There only the trainer and the dog are present. When the dog is taken out, the trainer will accompany the dog as its protector. These dogs will not be able to perform well at a situation where so many people are there in the surroundings.
Another important thing to remember is that while taking out the dog the dog should always pay attention to its trainer. The dog should be alert all the time what the trainer is doing.
This is just a little bit of information of all the information available on dog training. I hope you have learned a bit from this article though. Good luck!
Boxer Dog Training Tips: First Month Home
Dogs are intuitively clean. You may or may have not observed this with your own dog, but the knowledge will hopefully help you better understand why your dog displays certain apparently unpleasant traits. All dogs have their own definition of cleanliness and they instinctively act to maintain that standard. Dogs do not intentionally soil themselves. In fact, they have various inbuilt ways of avoiding doing so. Some dogs prefer to dispose of their waste on the grass, while others prefer to use gravel. You may not have noticed, but in this mannerism they are very similar to cats. It is best to consider these dog habits to be a positive element that can be worked on. A useful way to start training a dog, is to take advantage of these natural habits as a basis for fast and successful house training.
There are two essential steps when training a dog within your home. The first is to set up a specific living area for your dog. This can be set up in relatively little space in such places as the garage or the bathroom. Some people use a small area of the kitchen. It might not be such a good idea though to utilize any part of your living room for your dog, as it might be quite difficult for both you and he to accept that as his private space. It is highly advisable to spend some quality time with your pet in his own living area. The living area should be chosen as a potential place to play with your dog. Your dog should also be free to sleep and eat in that area. It will be more satisfactory and motivating for your pet if you also provide them with their own bed in the designated area. Have patience in dealing with your dog in the ‘his’ living area. Your dog may pass waste in there at first but later, will realize that it is their own living area and will then make an effort not to mess in there again.
Once your dog becomes familiar in sleeping in his specialized bed, it is then no longer a problem to transfer the bed to any part of the house, or anywhere you wish. If you move the bed outside your dog’s living area, you will need to ensure that you confine your pet to the bed. If you are using a crate as his bed, make sure to close the crate’s door. If you are using a towel as your dog’s bed, place it behind particular furniture and harness your dog so he will not stray from the bed.
It is not advisable to leave your pet unattended while they are leashed, so you may well consider having the leash attached to yourself. You may for instance, clip one end of the leash to your belt loop. This would allow you to keep an eye on the dog and constantly supervise his conduct and activity.
The second step in house training a dog, is to set up a toilet area. You will then need to train him to pass waste in your prescribed toilet area. If your dog shows signs of wanting to, or actually starts, to do his business, then immediately take him to this area. Stay with your dog during this process each time until he finally establishes the habit of only passing waste in his own toilet area.
The steps outlined here are practical, yet have a significant impact on your dog’s disciplinary behavior. Once your dog develops such habits, moving on to a higher level of training should become much easier.

Although we have heard so many times that training a dachshund is not a piece of cake, but not even impossible. As dachshunds are very intelligent dogs and are stubborn which is very difficult to train them easily. A lot of patience and consistency is needed for training a dachshund. So many dog owners complain about the bad behavior of their dachshunds; it is actually a big problem and it arises when they cannot pay full attention to their dachshunds. The shrewd and stubborn behavior of them always makes them to outfox their owners, but the owners should have to work out on this in order to avoid any mishap during training a dachshund.
In training a dachshund, it is comparatively easy to train the puppies. In early stages you can lead them as they are learning and picking things, and they learn what you want them to learn. Basically from a new born puppy till 12th month, it needs much love, deliberation and good food. In this stage these things should be taken care of. Make sure you keep your puppy out of unpleasant happenings, because they get scared and training will not affect them. However when they grow up they will be used to those situations but in early stages it is fearful for them. There are some stages through which they should be treated accordingly. From 3 to 4 weeks the session for training a dachshund puppy starts, during which it learns how to walk, he reacts to noises, starts to eat solid foods, playing with their mates and exploring things around them. This is when you have to keep you puppy away from sudden loud noises and leaving them alone at home, it’s scary for them. After fourth week till seventh the puppy start to go alone and wander everywhere, it’s a stage that learns how to do things without its mother and also starts weaning. Following this till 12 weeks, the puppy learns simple instructions like ‘come’, ‘go’, ‘sit’ and ‘no’ and etc. always talk in a very gentle tone, if it is doing something that shouldn’t do; just say “No!” do not shout or yell. Educate you puppy to get bedded properly at this time. From 12th week onwards, try to take them on walk, make them familiar with other people and animals.
