Training Your Dog With Live Birds
Game hunters know how important a good dog is. A good hunting dog can strengthen your eyes and ears, and it’s always more fun to have a companion with you when you’re hunting! However, for the most effective hunting, you need a dog that’s well trained. This means obeying commands, of course, but a good hunting dog should also know what’s expected of him in the field.
One way hunters train their dogs is with live birds. That is, they take their dogs out to chase (and hunt) birds, using the opportunity to train the dogs out in the wild.
There are many advantages to using this method. One obvious advantage is that the dog gets real experience interacting with birds, and learns in real time what to do based on your commands, praise, and reprimands.
Another advantage is that you, the hunter, can see how your dog interacts with live birds so you can tailor your training techniques to fit your dog’s personality, as well as your hunting style. After all, if you have a pointing breed, you would want to curtail catching behavior early. With flushing and retriever breeds, on the other hand, you want to praise catching behavior, since dogs that try to catch birds will be better flushers.
If you want to train your dog with live birds, there are a couple of things you’ll need. The first is, of course, birds. Many trainers recommend using good flying quail. They may be difficult to find, but it’s worth it in order to have a well trained bird dog. The other thing you’ll need is a quality quail recaller.
When you have your quails and you’re ready to train your dog with live birds, put about two dozen quails in a box and don’t let them eat for a day. The next day, take the birds, a small block of ice, some game bird feed, and your recaller into the field. Scatter the feed across the area, and put the box down nearby. Cut a hole in the box and cover it with the block of ice, preventing the quails from escaping. Then walk away.
Once the ice melts, the quail will be able to leave the box and will find the feed. (Make sure there is water nearby, as well.) After about a week, you can run your dogs on the birds. This provides a controlled area for you and your dog to train with live birds. As with any training, patience and consistency are important to help your dog learn what you want.
Training is important for good hunting dogs. And while it’s great to teach a dog to hunt with commands, there’s nothing quite like getting in the field with live birds to teach your hunting companion exactly what to do in a hunt. And before you know it, you’ll have a great hunter!

Alpha Dog Obedience Training – Basic Steps to Train Your Dog
As the title suggests, praise and positive re-enforcement are your keys to quick and easy obedience training for your dog.
The old saying “dogs are man’s best friend,” didn’t work its way into our every day life by accident. It has taken centuries of man working alongside the Canine and breeding desirable traits into the popular breeds of today. From the tiniest Chihuahua to the biggest Bull Mastiff and everything in between, each breed carries a desirable trait for its master. Along with size, color, type of fur and demeanor. The inherent trait of wanting to please its master, is probably the most desired and useful trait a dog could own. Using your dogs trait to please its master is the most effective way to train any dog. Ever hear the old saying “You attract more bee’s with honey?” Well, the same holds true with training your dog. Good dog obedience training is simply about praising the good behavior of your dog and ignoring the bad.
Praise that can re-enforce wanted behavior can be anything from a simple “GOOD BOY” to a nice piece of steak! A good pat on the head or scratch behind the ears are a couple of my favorites. This type of training can be done under many situations. Let’s say you are working on the command “sit.” If you find your dog in a nice sitting position even without your command. You can use this as an opportunity to positively re-enforce the command”sit.” As the dog is all ready sitting you can tell him/her “good boy! Sit, that is a good sit!” (pet or give him a treat).
Now lets talk a little about handling the not so good behavior. I know that this can be the most challenging part of training a dog. Let me point out the most important thing you have to remember when it comes to dealing with bad behavior. IF YOU DON’T CATCH YOUR DOG IN THE ACT there is no chance for learning or correcting the behavior. If you do catch your dog in the act of say chewing on your brand new dinning room table, (which has happened to me), you must first control your emotions. Then firmly say,”NO!” and re-direct them to what they are aloud to chew on. Now comes the really hard part… praise them for chewing on the correct chew toy. Keep your rage for that Saturday morning kick boxing class.
So, remember “Good Dog!” Obedience Training. Is the best and fastest way to train your dog. And you will be rewarded as you develop confidence in your dog and your relationship with your dog. An unbeatable combination for a long lasting rewarding companionship.
Happy training, thanks for reading.

Puppy Clicker Training
Some say that it’s always better to start early. This adage also goes true when it comes to training dogs. It’s better to train dogs while they are still pups, although it could be a bit of a challenge when it comes to training pups, but it could be worth it along the way. There is an easy way to training puppies, and mere words won’t be enough to make these puppies follow you, so you have to make use of puppy clicker training so that you can be able to make your puppy follow you in the easiest way,
You don’t really have to bark just for you to be understood by the puppy if you want to train your puppy or if you want it to do stuff for you. All you need to do is to click on a simple clicking device, and you can make your puppy follow whatever you want it to do. When it comes to clicker training your puppy, you should be aware of the limitations of a puppy. It’s a fact that a puppy’s skills are limited, and it can’t do what a grown up dog can when it comes to its mental and physical abilities, so even if you have a clicker, you have to be aware that it should be a progressive training. Start from the simple skills like sitting and fetching because even these simple tricks will take a long time for the pup to digest. Thus, what you also need is a longer patience so that you can be able to train your puppy more effectively. Spend more time with the puppy but don’t make the training too long because just like a kid, you can’t keep a puppy too long for just one particular task. In addition to that, don’t push your puppy too hard, or it might get traumatized at such a young age that it won’t undergo trainings with you when it gets older.
Another adage says, “You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.” With this adage in mind, engage in puppy clicker training so that your pet can learn more tricks in the long run.
